I would suggest Toyota Avalon. This car is reliable, roomy and lots of space. Plus its has V6 and more than 200 horsepower.Good enough for your height and your cargo space. Best of all, you don't have top worry about getting stuck driving back home. Good Luck..
References :
To be honest i would go with Toyota, their cars are extremely reliable. A Toyota Corolla is the most reliable car u can buy, low on maintenance and good on gas.
References :
I find Civics & Corollas in general to be overpriced in the used car market. A better bet, imo would be a Hyundai Elantra, which is rated a used car best bet by Edmunds yet can be had for several thousand dollars less than a Civic or Corolla of comparable year & condition, at least in my neck of the woods. Camry is a nice car & is roomier than a Civic or Corolla which might serve you better due to your height. But I am a little leery because they seem to have a problem w/ oil gelling & causing engine failure if they weren't properly maintained (this is documented on a number of web sites, yet still generally ignored by the mainstream media). Many Accords can be found in the used car market, but again the name 'Honda' seems to be enough to demand a premium price. Maintenance is a key in used cars. If you can find a car that has been cared for, one that has been properly maintained & has its service records intact, that is probably more important than the make & model, despite what Honda & Toyota would want you to think.
References :
> I am looking for a reliable used car

Reliability of a used care is LARGELY dependent on the quality of maintenance. If the car was NOT maintained, you can bet no car will be dependable.

Having said that I've had good luck with Japanese cars.
====
> and am planning to drive home about 1800 miles

You are asking for trouble. You need to drive it for a while to get a feel for the car. Many old car can be very dependable, but they have parts near breaking point (all the time).

My OLD car (civic 188K miles) successfully drove from NYC to Chicago (non stop) last winter. Then the next day I drove it back (1600 miles in 2 day). So it is very reliable. But last week I found out that my distributor rotors was all worn out and very near failing. So it is always near breaking down somewhere.

Good luck...
